Your Own
Back when I was a kid, my mom and dad
Did their best - to drive me mad
Night by night and day by day
This is all I heard them say:
“Go to your room! Do what your father says!
Eat your spinach! Clean up this mess!
No more sweets! Leave your nose alone!
Oh, you think you’re so smart - well,
You just wait till you have your own!”
I didn’t know what they meant
I was too young to understand
My own what? Will you tell me please
It sounds like some rare disease
But one fine morning I was pulled out of bed
By a couple of kids who were calling me ‘dad’
My oh my, how the time has flown
This is it: now I have my own
Now, from that day I began to change
Turning into something strange
Doing things I never thought I would
Another victim of parenthood
With a “Go to your room! Do what your mother says!
Eat your spinach! Clean up this mess!
No more Facebook! Hang up the phone already!
And the worst thing of all, I heard myself say:
You just wait till you have your own!”
Now grandma and grandpa - they have also changed
Now they got their sweet revenge
With that smile of ‘I told you so’
They just sit back and enjoy the show
Oh, I’d rather be a grandpa - but instead
I’m stuck with playing dad
Till they day that the kids have grown
Till the day that they have their
I’ll just wait till they have their
Oh, I can’t wait till they have their own!.
